Your trees, Your nature

Tree pruning* consists in getting rid of the branches that interfere with buildings, pools, wires, alleys, etc. or that could eventually become harmful to the health of the tree.

To give a tree beauty and strength, we need to take away the dead wood as well as the broken, sick, badly placed, weak, interfering or redundant branches. The side shoots, sprouts, stubs and suckers also need to be removed.

*Pollarding is a technique complementary to pruning that consists in cutting off the new shoots. (Translation from the Glossaire des termes arboricoles 2011, Société internationale d'arboriculture Québec, SIAQ). This is the kind of treatment a cedar hedge would receive, while a tree would be pruned.
